Organizational and Education Leadership
No Barriers, 2014-2023: No Barriers provides transformative experiences to build an inclusive world for all where barriers don’t stand in the way of possibilities. As the Chief Operating Officer, Andrea led teams to operationalize organizational strategy to achieve mission-driven impact for diverse populations including veterans, people with disabilities, caregivers, educators, and organizational leaders. In her previous role as Director of Experience Design, Andrea developed co-founder and blind adventurer Erik Weihenmayer’s philosophy into the No Barriers Life education framework. A key project for Andrea was co-creation of the No Barriers Leadership program, designed for delivery of the framework to corporate leaders for self-development and to meet business challenges. Andrea’s work with executives has focused on understanding barriers inhibiting success, harnessing adversity into opportunity, authentic leadership, change management, and the pursuit of potential through self-development.

Poudre School District 2006-2014: As an education leader at the district and building levels, Andrea’s core priority was to drive educational change through the development of people. At the district level, Andrea designed and facilitated professional development experiences for administrators and teachers to advance their understanding of curriculum design, student engagement, and effective pedagogical practices. After studying education leadership and earning her principal license at Colorado State University, Andrea stepped into the role of school administrator, where she focused on building culture and highly effective teams to deliver exceptional learning experiences.

International Schools 1995-2005: Andrea earned her master’s degree in education from Columbia University Teachers College, and then taught diverse populations of students in New York City, Venezuela, Chile, and Ecuador. Andrea’s approach to education is rooted in the philosophy of progressivism, prioritizing the whole person and active learning through experience. Having launched her career as an educator in a new alternative school for low-income, recent immigrants, she was immediately afforded the opportunity to innovate through creative curriculum design to meet unique learner needs. Finding the right combination of design and delivery that engages learners in meaningful discovery has been her quest ever since.

Andrea lives with her husband and teenage son in Fort Collins, Colorado, a vibrant university town on the front range of the Rocky Mountains. When she’s not engaged in nonprofit board work or her latest learning endeavor, Andrea and her family enjoy international travel adventures, hauling their camper all over the country, cold lakes on hot days, mountain biking in the foothills, and winter excursions on snowshoes and skis. They can also often be found perusing cookbooks and experimenting in the kitchen as they prepare for gatherings with family and friends.
